de Fiets (the Bicycle) - short film

After my studies at the Film Academy in Amsterdam, I established  Rinkel Film Producties in 1996 with Reinier Selen, so I could make my first short film The Bicycle. Because I wanted to make my first film as visual as possible I decided to not use any dialogue and try to tell it to music only.

The result is a short film that traveled the festival circuit and has been bought by the MOMA in New York and is part of the collection of the Radio & TV Museum in NY & LA. It's been shown in many, many countries.

Freek de Jonge, a Dutch comedian, altruistically played a vagabond, for which I am still grateful. Roef Ragas was a rising star, but he's unfortunatelly not among us anymore. Marlies Rutten plays the little girl in a stellar role. But the music too has a stellar role; a fantastic composition by José Retra.
